Does FERA require a paper filter?
No. FERA is designed for direct, paperless brewing. Its reusable stainless steel filtration system replaces disposable paper filters — simply add ground coffee and brew.
Will coffee grounds pass through FERA?
FERA’s fine inner mesh helps reduce coffee fines from passing into the cup, while the more open outer layer supports smooth and efficient drainage. For best results, we recommend a medium grind, which is well suited to pour-over brewing and helps maintain a balanced flow.
What grind size works best with FERA?
Medium to medium-fine is a good starting point for pour-over brewing. If the flow is too fast, grind slightly finer; if it drains too slowly, adjust slightly coarser.
How does FERA compare with a paper filter?
Unlike paper filters, FERA does not absorb as much of coffee’s natural oils, allowing more body and texture to remain in the cup. With no paper in the brewing process, there is also no paper material to influence the brew.
Can FERA be used for tea and other infusions?
Yes. FERA can also filter loose-leaf tea, herbal infusions, dried flowers, fruit blends, and other loose brewing ingredients. Its fine mesh helps contain loose ingredients while allowing water to circulate through them.
How do I clean FERA?

Coffee oils and fine particles can gradually build up in the mesh. Wash FERA thoroughly with dish soap and a soft cleaning brush, or use the dishwasher to help clear the filter and restore normal flow.
